Peter Whitelaw was appointed Chief Risk Officer in October 2014. In this role, he leads a team of risk specialists who provide BNZ with world-class risk leadership, oversight, analysis, and insight.
Peter previously worked at National Australia Bank (NAB), where his most recent role was General Manager, Group Market Risk. He joined NAB in 2006 where he led a global team accountable for the independent measurement, oversight and setting of risk appetite for all market risk in NAB’s trading and capital markets businesses globally.
 
Peter has 30 years of financial markets experience, having started his career in the 1980s as an associate in the bullion department at Credit Suisse in London. Prior to joining NAB, Peter worked for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) as head of its Market and Liquidity Risk Management Group in Europe, leading teams across London, Paris, Brussels and Düsseldorf. Following this, he moved to Australia with SMBC in 2005 as its Senior Vice President of Financial Risk Management.
 
Peter has a long track record of delivering positive business outcomes through volatile markets, regulatory changes, mergers, legal entity changes and major finance and risk system implementations. He has a First Class Honours degree in Mathematics and a Masters Degree in Quantitative Finance.

Nathaniel joined Lotto NZ in 2005, following nearly a decade working in Telecommunications. Initially working in Quality Assurance and Technology management, he has spent the last four years focused on Risk and Security. Working with the largest retail network and one the busiest websites in New Zealand means effective risk management is a strategic foundation and a focus of the Board and Executive team. Nathaniel holds a Bachelor of Information Technology and is currently leading an initiative to certify Lotto NZ to ISO 27001 and the World Lottery Association’s Security Control Standard.

Gabriel has broad experience in risk management, primarily gained during his role as Executive Director of Risk and Compliance at IFM Investors, a global fund manager based in Melbourne, Australia.  Gabriel started his career in Auckland in corporate law and worked at national firms in New Zealand and Australia.  Gabriel then moved into the funds management industry in 2008 as a Commercial Director and began to deepen his experience in risk management.  Gabriel joined the New Zealand Superannuation Fund in 2015 and is responsible for providing risk management leadership across the Fund.

Kerry is currently the Head of Internal Audit at Television New Zealand. A recent focus has been on creating opportunities for increased management involvement in risk identification, assessment and treatment.  Reviewing the relationships within groupings of risks rather than looking at each risk individually, and developing more meaningful reporting for the Board are also areas of interest. Linking sources of assurance on risks from the internal and external auditors work and other third party specialists’ advice to provide a combined assurance map is another area of interest.  Previously Kerry was the Shareholders’ Council Manager for Fonterra and before the merger worked for the New Zealand Dairy Group in a number of roles including Shareholders’ Council Manager, Assistant Company Secretary and Group Internal Audit Manager.

Christine is the Head of Internal Audit at Kiwibank.  For the fifth year in a row in 2015 Kiwibank has been awarded the Bank of the Year - First Home Buyer Award.  Christine provides independent assurance to the Board, Audit Committee and executive team on the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls and governance for Kiwibank and its wholly owned entities. 
Educated in Vienna (Austria) and Wellington, Christine holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Administration and Economics from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Austria),  Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting from Victoria University (NZ).    
Christine has an extensive career in governance, risk management and assurance across both public and private organisations.  Utilising her knowledge of industry good practices, financial experience and sense of pragmatism has seen Christine awarded the “Internal Auditor of the Year of New Zealand” by the Institute of Internal Auditors of New Zealand in 2012/13.  Prior to Kiwibank Christine held senior risk and audit roles including Director Risk and Assurance for the Ministry of Justice, Chief Risk & Assurance Advisor at the Department for Building and Housing and Manager Financial Governance & Risk at ANZ New Zealand.

Adrian has been helping managers to anticipate and shape the future of their most important business priorities since 1991, when he was recruited from KPMG by Deloitte as part of the global risk management programme for General Motors.  Since then he worked in senior positions at The Treasury, MAF, Commerce Commission as well as consulting on his own account.  
Adrian is a former member of OB7 Risk Management Committee, responsible for Australia/NZ Standard 4360 [now ISO 31000] and Contributing Chair of the team that wrote the HB 327 Handbook on Risk Communication that accompanies 4360.  He is past Deputy Chair of the NZ Society for Risk Management [now NZRisk] and a member of the Wellington Leadership Team, Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand.
Adrian completed the Executive Fellows Programme, ANZSOG at the Melbourne University Business School and holds Masters degrees from Massey University and Cranfield School of Management.

Grant Purdy, the workshop leader, has worked throughout the world for over 39 years, training, supporting and mentoring so that organisations can create greater value from risk management and can move on from mechanistic risk management to understanding and responding to uncertainty on a day by day, decision by decision basis.
 
Grant was a member of the Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand risk management committee for 14 years and its chair for seven.  He was one of the co-authors of AS/NZS 4360:2004, was the nominated expert in the committee that wrote ISO 31000:2009 and co-author of the new companion implementation guide to AS/NZS ISO 31000:2009, HB 436:2013.

As Chairman of Propellerhead Advisory Board, he's across business disruption where the organisation has helped companies transition from old world business models to the digital world in order to avoid the risks of a "Kodak moment" facing too many companies today.
 
Henri is a regular contributor to the NZ Herald, National Business Review, Idealog magazine and other publications. He founded Board Dynamics in 2009 where he uses his experience to help boards function at their peak. His senior executive career includes working at JP Morgan Chase and PwC in the UK, Deloitte in New York, the Bank of Montreal in Toronto and Telecom NZ in New Zealand.
 
He is also Chairman Balle Bros Group, Chairman Risk Dynamics, Chairman Taxpayer’s Simplification Panel (Inland Revenue Advisory Board), a Non-Executive Director of King Tide Asset Management, Trustee Plunket Foundation and President of the Canada NZ Business Council.
 
Henri has an international education and broad experience, having studied at universities in four countries – UK, Canada, USA and New Zealand. He holds a BA, LLB (Hons) and MBA. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Management and was named a Chartered Fellow of the Institute of Directors (NZ) in Dec 2015.
